NEW NEWS: DHS

Locker Clean Out – June 20
Students must clean out their lockers - including sports team and PE - by the end of school on June 20. Anything left behind will be donated or discarded. Students can see Mrs. Hyatt at the front desk for school locker combos.

Professional Graduation Photos

Lifetouch will take two pictures of each senior during the graduation ceremony: one when receiving their Diploma and one exiting the "stage". These will be available for purchase at www.lifetouchevents.com and the site is password protected. The password will be handed to the students at the graduation practice. It is the same as the guest password for Naviance. If you still need it, contact Donna Russo drusso@darienps.org, Barb Simms, maxwellton14@aol.com or just reply and ask! With the password, photos will be available for viewing and purchase for 90 days. If you see your picture and want it removed, contact: removephoto@lifetouchevents.com.

DHSPA Thank Yous from Barb and Jayme
Thanks to the DHSPA team of Tricia Conley and Chris McCabe for hosting the terrific Faculty Year-End Luncheon at DHS. Helping were also Marie Litchfield and Liz Bacon, and many others who donated food. Thank you all for a most enjoyable event!
Another round of thanks goes to Beth Crump for the Graduation Recpetion to be held immediately following Commencement festivities on Wednesday at DHS in the Cafeteria. Also, many thanks to the volunteers who graciously contributed food for this most lovely event.
Finally, thanks to Maggie Brindley, Leigh Kosnik, and their committee chairs, for the 007....License to Thrill post-graduation party set for Wednesday night, 10pm - 2am. What a great way to end your senior year!
Once again, a BIG thanks to all the parent volunteers who make such a difference at DHS. You are most important!

Make sure you include a contact name and e-mail address in the text of your submission for questions we may have.
All text may be edited and submission does not guarantee publication.
Submissions must be age-appropriate and Darien school and/or community relevant. Only community events that are for charitable purposes (not-for-profit) or are school related will be considered for inclusion in the Community section of the DPN. Business advertising is not accepted.
To have a submission repeated, you need to resend the entire previously printed blurb to us for editing and re-approval.

College and Career Center Open in July
For your convenience, the College and Career Center will be open in July on Thursdays only from 9 -11. Or you may make an appointment by email with Candy Wheelock, cwheelock@optonline.net or Nancy Herling, mherls@aol.com. The College and Career Center has:
Viewbooks and applications for admission for over 500 colleges
Course books for over 100 colleges
Guidebooks for college admissions, including books for students with disabilities and scholarship/financial aid information

Materials on summer programs: academic, travel, adventure, music and arts
Materials for prep schools offering PG year programs
Scholarship information
2 computers providing access to Naviance database

DHS Used Textbook Sales
If you would like to sell or purchase a used textbook, email Ann FitzMaurice, annfitz@yahoo.com who will try to put buyers in touch with sellers. To sell a textbook, please put TEXTSELL in the subject line. In the email, please list the books you are selling, the condition, the price, and your phone number. Typically, books sell from 50-75% of the original cost depending on the condition. To buy a textbook, please put TEXTBUY in the subject line. In the email, please list the book specifics including ISBN numbers and your phone number. The textbook list for math, history, and science classes will be available in August.

Volunteer in the JOBS office next year

If you are interested in working at the JOBS office for the 2007-08 school year, please email Susan Marks susanjmarks@optonline.net or Mary Nelson, nelknoll@aol.com. We will be putting together a schedule in the fall. FYI, the JOBS office hours are Mon-Wed-Fri, 11am-1pm. Please indicate your preferred day if necessary. Thanks!

China Host Families Needed
The Darien-China Exchange Program is seeking host families for the students & teachers from the Shanghai No. 3 Girls School who will be visiting this fall for two weeks (tentatively 9/25-10/6). If your family has any interest in hosting or, if you would love to participate in this enriching, international experience, but can't host, please contact Ann Armiger aarmiger@darienps.org, Beth Crump,crumpbeth@optonline.net, or Debbie Coley, dcoley@optonline.net for further information.

The Blue Wave Pride Club is undertaking a campaign to raise funds to put the D logo in the middle of the two DHS turf fields and the main gym. Watch for details this summer!

Electronics recycling – Saturday, June 30
This is your chance to recycle computers, monitors, cell phones, TVs, VCRs, copiers, fax machines, printers, radios, and stereos! Clean our your garage and help the environment! Scalzi Park, Stamford (Washington Blvd and Bridge St.), from 9-1.

P2P – Summer Clothes Needed
As you embark on summer activities, we want to thank you for all of your support during the school year. Because of your dedication, we were able to help 18,206 low-income individuals and families. If you still have summer clothing to donate, we need it!! We have no storage facilities for out-of-season clothing. We especially need clothing for children and men. Thank you! www.p2pdarien.org

Summer Internships in TV
If you or your kids are looking for a "cool non-paying job" this summer, check out the training opportunities at Darien's own TV79. You'll get hands-on experience running the cameras and audio gear as well as the video recording and editing technology. Camera operators for evening meeting coverage can work as little as one night per week. Summer Reading
During the summer vacation, students should select books that they are interested in reading and read as much as possible. Welcome Center Sign-ups
If you are interested in working a shift at the Welcome Center for the 2007 – 2008 school year, please contact Patti Schoknecht at pschoknecht@darienps.org or 655-3981 ext. 2353. There are five 1 1/2 hour shifts per day: 7:30 - 9:00 a.m., 9:00 -10:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon, 12 noon to 1:30 p.m., 1:30 - 2:45 p.m. When you call or email to sign-up, please include: name, address, phone number, email address, the day you would like to work, and the shift you would like to work. If you are flexible, feel free to indicate more than one option, in order of preference. Sign-ups are on a first come, first served basis. If you are currently working at the Welcome Center you must still contact Patti to sign-up for the 2007-2008 school year.
